Democratic Republic of Congo striker Cedric Bakambu has broken the African transfer record previously held by Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Bakambu, 26, has completed a £65m (R1.07b) transfer to Chinese Super League side Beijing Guoan from LaLiga outfit Villarreal, on a reported four-year contract.
The transfer fee eclipses the £56m (R926m) the Gunners spent on Aubameyang on transfer deadline-day at the end of January and represents a significant outlay for the club who finished in ninth-place within the 16-team Chinese top-flight last season.
Known for being the only African player to ever win the LaLiga Player of the month award, the French-born striker scored 47 goals in two and a half-seasons with the Yellow Submarine, after joining them from Turkish Super Lig outfit Bursaspor in 2015.
The DRC international also made the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League Squad of the Season, after helping the Spanish side to the semi-finals of the competition.
