Tottenham striker Harry Kane looks set to reach an English goalscoring feat last achieved by five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo a decade ago.
Kane, 24, has scored a staggering 35 goals in 36 games across all competitions this season and is now just five goals away from becoming the first player to reach the 40 goal mark since the Real Madrid attacking talisman.
Ronaldo scored 42 in 49 games in the 2007/08 season, helping Manchester United secure the league and UEFA Champions League double, which proved to be his penultimate season at Old Trafford, before his then world-record £80 million (R1.3b) transfer to Los Blancos.
While Ronaldo was the last footballer to reach the 40-goal mark, Kane still has to find the net nine more times to reach 15-year-old English record set by another former Red Devil, Ruud Van Nistelrooy.
The former Netherlands international smashed 44 goals in 53 games in the 2002/03 season.
Both strikers ended up at the Santiago Bernabeu after the record-breaking exploits in England.
And Kane, whose Spurs side face five teams from the bottom half of the league table in their next five fixtures - is widely tipped to be the next Premier League star to make the switch to Madrid.
