Paris Saint-Germain attacking talisman Neymar has been ruled out for three months by Brazil doctor Rodrigo Lasmar upon an assessment of his injury.
Neymar fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot and sprained his ankle after a robust challenge from Marseille midfielder Bouna Sarr in the Ligue 1 leaders 3-0 win in the French Classico on Sunday.
After days of confusion surrounding the condition of the Brazil international, PSG and Brazil national team doctors have come to an agreement over the next step for the 26-year-old's recovery.
According to Lasmar, Neymar will be on the sidelines for the remainder of the season; "The (recovery) period will be around two and a half to three months."
Les Parisiens also released an official statement via their official website stating the player will undergo surgery in his native country this weekend.
"After an initial treatment period of three days in line with a strict medical protocol, a joint decision has been taken between the medical staffs of both Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazil national team.
"In accordance with the player, it has been decided that Neymar will undergo surgery in Brazil at the end of this week."
