Orlando Pirates coach Micho Sredojevic says they must best Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune

Orlando Pirates coach Micho Sredojevic has challenged his players to score against the best defence in the PSL.

The Buccaneers host Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium on Saturday (15h30) and will be hoping to find a way past a side that has conceded just 12 goals in 22 matches this season. Steve Komphela's men have kept four clean sheets in their seven matches in 2018.

Pirates, meanwhile, were criticised for wasting many opportunities in the first half of the season, but their conversion rate has improved in the second round. The Buccaneers have scored 15 goals in seven second-half-of-the-season matches, compared to the 11 they bagged in the first round of the campaign.

But to prove that they have indeed improved in front of goal, Micho has called on his players to beat one of Africa’s best goalkeepers Itumeleng Khune, who has 12 clean sheets this season.

“We look to create as many chances as possible so that in percentage the conversion [rate] is much better. When you repeat something several times, it becomes automatic.

“We have used so many training aspects on how to score in the small goal [posts], the big goal, the biggest goal. We have two or three goalkeepers to score against [in training to prepare for] one of the best goalkeepers in Africa Itumeleng Khune on Saturday. This is what we are looking at.

“If we are really so good in scoring in the second round, then I challenge us to try against the best defence to be dominant, effective and have a much better conversion rate. They are a top class defending team, so this is a challenge for us attacking-wise. We need to find a formula for that.”

A player like Justin Shonga certainly has what it takes to beat Khune on Saturday. The Zambian forward will go into the Derby high on confidence after the brace he scored in the 4-2 victory over Chippa United last Sunday.
