Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane defends Gareth Bale after Espanyol LaLiga defeat

Posted: 28 February 2018 Time: 10:00

Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane has refused to blame any of his players after suffering their fifth LaLiga defeat of the season on Tuesday evening.

A last-minute goal from Gerard Moreno saw the mid-table side pick up a surprise three points at the RCDE Stadium and Real were left scratching their heads in disbelief.

After winning the league title last season, Los Blancos have endured a below-par campaign, trailing FC Barcelona by 14 points, having played a game more than their domestic rivals.

However, Zidane defended his team selection and club-record signing, Bale, in his post-match press conference.

"There isn't a 'plan B'. It's a team with 25 players and every match we have to choose a team. Today it hasn't gone well," he said as quoted via Marca.

"Things haven't gone well for us. It didn't work for many reasons, not because of one player," Zidane said in reference of Bale's ineffective display.

"It's a blow because the result didn't fit [the performance]. I don't have to have a go out any of my players."
