Baroka release Olaleng Shaku and Puskas Award nominee Oscarine Masuluke

Posted: 27 February 2018 Time: 13:38 can reveal that Baroka have parted ways with their captain Olaleng Shaku and Puskas Award nominee Oscarine Masuluke.

Bakgaga chairman Khurishi Mphahlele confirmed the news but declined to elaborate.

“We had to release them, but I can’t tell you why. If I tell you, then they won’t be able to find work,” said Mphahlele.

This website recently got wind that the duo were in hot water at the club along with suspended coach Kgoloko Thobejane, who has been accused of drinking on the team bus after a 2-0 loss to Free Stars Stars at Goble Park on February 3.

Mphahlele said Thobejane, who has missed the past three matches, is yet to appear before a disciplinary hearing. MacDonald Makhubedu is overseeing the side in his absence in a caretaker capacity.

Shaku's armband has been passed over to veteran campaigner Letladi Madubanya. Shaku played in 20 games in all competitions this campaign, having skippered the club when they were promoted to the topflight at the end of 2015/16.

Shaku was a long serving player for Bakgaga and formed part of the side that surprised many by reaching the Nedbank Cup semi finals in 2011.

While players such as Thobani Mncwango, Katlego Mashego, Thabiso Nkoana and Lantshene Phalane left for greener pastures after their fairytale campaign in the tournament, Shaku stayed with the club and helped them win promotion to the National First Division and eventually the Absa Premiership.

Masuluke's profile soared when he was nominated for the FIFA Goal of the Year award in 2017, eventually losing out on honours to French striker Olivier Giroud.

He only played one league game in 2017/18 in what was his fourth season with the Premiership side. He lost his place in the starting line-up to Virgil Vries, who has not played in the club's last four matches.
