Orlando Pirates striker Justin Shonga insists he never signed any pre-contract with Mamelodi Sundowns before joining the Buccaneers.
Pirates and Sundowns looked set for a legal battle after Brazilians mentor Pitso Mosimane said Shonga had agreed terms with his side prior to linking up with Bucs in September last year.
However, no such dispute arose and the Zambian has since settled in at Mayfair with three goals and four assists for the Buccaneers this season.
"I never signed any pre-contract with Sundowns," says Shonga, who hit a brace in a 4-2 win over Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium over the weekend.
"I went to visit them and they showed us the contract. I said I will come and join them in January but by then Pirates came up and I thought about the game-time and I knew here I would have had that.
"The coach [Milutin Sredejovic] spoke to me and he wanted to bring me here. I saw Sundowns have a good team and were together for many years."
The 21-year-old adds: "I would have had a chance to play there but I opted for Pirates. But with time in my career I can still go there at Sundowns. I won't say I won't go there, it is football."
Shonga is expected to lead the line when the Sea Robbers tackle Soweto Derby rivals Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday (15h30).
Pirates are four points behind log leaders Downs, with Chiefs a further point off the pace with eight matches left.
