Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Manqoba Mngqithi hails the quality of the current squad

Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Manqoba Mngqithi believes they have an even stronger squad than the one that clinched the CAF Champions League title in 2016.

Sundowns will begin their continental campaign next month, looking for imporvements after they were knocked out in the quarterfinals last year. They have made additions to the squad, bringing in the likes of Aubrey Ngoma, Jeremy Brockie, Gaston Sirino and Siyabonga Zulu during the January transfer window.

“Ever since I came to Sundowns I have always believed that we have got a team that is capable of winning the Champions League, but I think this time around we have an even stronger team than the teams we’ve had before,” Mngqithi tells

“I think it will only show after what we see in the league and Nedbank Cup. In football it’s not always about the team you have. At times circumstances favour you and at times they don’t. So we will have to look into that, but I believe we have a very good team."

Sundowns are also going for gold in the Absa Premiership and Nedbank Cup.
