Spanish LaLiga match report FC Barcelona v Girona 24 February 2018

Posted: 24 February 2018 Time: 22:56

FC Barcelona romped to a 6-1 win over local rivals Girona FC in a LaLiga clash at the Camp Nou on Saturday night.

Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele returned to the Barca line-up, having not featured in the UEFA Champions League clash against Chelsea.

Girona took a surprising lead in the second minute as Portu found the back of the net with a fine finish from a tight angle.

Barca leveled matters two minutes later as Luis Suarez raced onto a through ball from Lionel Messi before calmly slotting past Yassine Bono.

Messi put the home side in the lead on 30 minutes with a fine individual effort from close range.

It got better for Ernesto Valverde's charges in the 36th minute when Messi scored direct from a free-kick to extend the lead to 3-1.

There was enough time for Barca to grab a fourth goal before the break when Coutinho and Messi combined to set up for Suarez for his second of the match.

Barca continued to push for more goals and went close in the opening 10 minutes of the second half through Suarez and Messi.

Coutinho got in on the scoring act in the 66th minute with a trademark curling strike from distance that left Bono with no chance.

Barca managed to bag a sixth goal in the 76th minute as Dembele picked out Suarez with a low cross and the Uruguayan made no mistake to complete his hat-trick.

That proved to be the final goal of the encounter as Valverde's charges ran out emphatic winners on the night and edged closer to securing the title.
