Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger on Roy Keane's scathing criticism of midfielder Jack Wilshere

Arsenal head coach Arsene Wenger says the criticism Roy Keane dished out on playmaker Jack Wilshere was hard for him to swallow after being labelled 'the most overrated player in the world.'

Speaking to ITV after the Gunners embarrassing 2-1 defeat at the hands of Swedish side Östersunds FK in their UEFA Europa League last-32 fixture, Keane launched a scathing attack on the England international.

However, Wenger was quick to jump to the defence of the 26-year-old, who's scored two goals and registered five assists in 28 games across all competitions this season.

"It's very difficult to hear. I rate Wilshere very highly. You can have opinions. Jack was in the team last night but did not perform particularly well," he told reporters, as quoted via Sky Sports.

"It was certainly not one of his best performances. Roy Keane knows that it can happen to anybody."
