The 25-year-old has been a regular for his French club this campaign, but has been forced to miss six of his side’s nine matches since the start of the year due to a recurring knee injury, and last featured in a league encounter on 27 January.

Since then, Amiens have lost two matches and drawn one, yet the former Mamelodi Sundowns man is now back in training, as he eyes a return to the field, though he may have to wait another week.

“Training yesterday was okay, I’m taking it easy,” he tells from France. “The injury is okay; I trained with the team just to see how I feel, but it’s not there yet … I think it’s still going to take a few days to fully recover, so I might miss the weekend’s game and only play the next one.”

Amiens currently sit 18th in Ligue 1, occupying the relegation play-off spot, and are just a point above 19th-placed Angers and eight points ahead of Metz, with the bottom two sides automatically relegated to the First Division. Yet Zungu, who has played in 17 of the club’s 26 league games this term, says he’s not worried, and backs himself to make a positive impact on his return.

“So far we’ve just been unlucky,” he says. “But we play very good football, and the coach urges us to keep pushing, and we’re working very hard. And obviously when I get back to the team, it will be a boost for the club. But since I’m still injured, all I’ve been able to do is to cheer for the guys, but I hope to get back soon.”

Amiens travel to fifth-placed Nantes for their next Ligue 1 encounter on Saturday evening.
