Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits have matches against Rayon Sport and Primeiro de Agosto

Posted: 21 February 2018 Time: 17:44

Former African champions Mamelodi Sundowns will face Rwandan side Rayon Sport in the CAF Champions League first round.

Rwandan champions Rayon beat LLB Academic from Burundi 2-1 on aggregate in the preliminary round. After drawing 1-1 at home in the first-leg tie, Rayon managed a 1-0 away win to book themselves a tough match against South Africa's seven-time champions.

Sundowns will have the advantage of playing the second-leg match at home as they look to qualify for the group stages for a third consecutive year.

Pitso Mosimane's men were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Moroccan outfit Wydad Casablanca last year and are determined to get their hands on the title they lifted in 2016.

Bidvest Wits, meanwhile, are set to play against Angolan outfit Primeiro de Agosto.

The Clever Boys beat Pamplemousses from Mauritius 2-1 on aggregate, while Agosto cruised to a 5-1 win over Zimbabwean side FC Platinum.

First-leg matches will be played on the weekend of March 6 and 7.
