Nhlanhla Vilakazi targets silverware with high-flying Free State Stars

Posted: 21 February 2018 Time: 19:00

Free State Stars midfielder Nhlanhla Vilakazi is hoping they can end what has been an unforgettable season with a trophy in the cabinet.

Ea Lla Koto are in fourth place in the Absa Premiership table and they have progressed to the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup, where they’ll host Chippa United.

While winning the league might be too big a task for Stars, they do have a realistic chance of winning the Nedbank Cup. After all, lower division clubs have managed to go far in the competition in previous seasons, so Stars have reason to believe they can finally get their hands on a trophy in the PSL era.

The 30-year-old Vilakazi has been playing in the PSL for 10 years now and would love nothing more than to win his first piece of silverware as a professional.

“Obviously it would be a very good feeling, we’d love to. I have never won a trophy in my career, so it would be a good thing if we can lift a trophy,” he tells

Vilakazi has given credit to coach Luc Eymael for the work he has done at the club since taking over from Sammy Troughton.

“It’s hard work. We work as a team. The coach believes in hard work and he pushes us to take our game to another level. He does not want players to relax, so I think that has been the secret to our success this season," he adds.

Ea Lla Koto take on Mamelodi Sundowns in an Absa Premiership match at Loftus Stadium tonight (19h30).
