Kamohelo Mokotjo’s Championship club Brentford have thrown themselves into contention to fight for a promotion play-off spot following their resounding 5-0 win over Birmingham City last night.
The South African was named in the starting XI for the 19th time in the league this season, and enjoyed a stellar game in the middle of the park, his 88% pass completion rate the highest of all players on the pitch.
Despite not getting involved in any of the goals, ‘Kamo’ stuck to his task as his more attack-minded teammates did the job, as a brace from Ollie Watkins, combined with goals from Neal Maupay, Florian Jozefzoon and an own goal rounded off a comfortable 5-0 win for The Bees, their second victory on the trot.
The result leaves the South African’s club in 10th in the Championship, just three points behind sixth-placed Bristol City – who have a game in hand – with 13 games left in the season. Sides placed third to sixth in the Championship head into the play-offs for a berth in next season’s Premier League, with Brentford eyeing a solid run-in to the end of the season to boost their play-off hopes on the congested table.
Meanwhile in Egypt, Gift Links made his third start for Egyptian club Alassiouty, who went down 1-0 to Entag El Harby in their league clash on Tuesday evening, the loss leaving them 12th on the log after 25 games played.
