Malajila is still needed at Downs

Zimbabwean striker Cuthbert Malajila remains a part of Pitso Mosimane’s plans, according to the Mamelodi Sundowns coach.
Malajila, who has struggled with injury this season, has been registered for the upcoming CAF Champions League campaign and Mosimane says he will need the player once he is fully fit.
He has made just two appearances for the Brazilians since returning from a loan spell at defending champions Bidvest Wits, both as a substitute against Platinum Stars and Kaizer Chiefs in the first half of the season. He sustained a knee injury in the 2-1 defeat to Amakhosi in October and has been out since then.
According to Mosimane, the former Maritzburg United forward is four weeks away from making a return.
“We still need him, we are going for the long haul. You must understand it’s not only for the Champions League. It’s for those three games, those three different tournaments we play. He’ll come on those days when we play on a Friday, play again on a Tuesday or Wednesday and then you play Nedbank Cup and then you come back and play the return leg of the Champions League. That’s where you need numbers.”
Once he returns to full fitness, Malajila will have to compete against the likes of Jeremy Brockie and Thokozani Sekotlong for a spot upfront.
“He is about four weeks away from coming back. It was a big injury. He collided with [Itumeleng] Khune in the game against Chiefs. We played eight against 10 [in field players] that day because [Tiyani] Mabunda got a red card,” the former Bafana Bafana coach says.
Sundowns take on Free State Stars in the Absa Premiership at Loftus Stadium tomorrow night (19h30).
