Belgium national team coach Roberto Martinez says Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne 'deserves' silverware as one of Europe's standout performers this season.

Martinez will be keeping a watchful eye over his star playmaker on Monday when the Citizens take on his former club Wigan Atletic in the fifth-round of the FA Cup and in an interview with BBC Sport the Spaniard cited of the incredible growth of the 26-year-old.

De Bruyne has scored 11 goals and registered a staggering 19 assists in 38 games across all competitions as Pep Guardiola's side remain in the hunt for the quadruple.

"In the past two seasons, Kevin has grown game by game," Martinez said. "Now he has got an influence that is a joy to watch.

"The way he is affecting games in such a consistent manner makes him very different to any other midfielder at a top team in Europe at the moment. Hopefully, he can win trophies from now until the end of the season, because he deserves them."
