Golden Arrows' Jabulani Shongwe admits referee Victor Gomes was right to send him off against Bidvest Wits

Golden Arrows midfielder Jabulani Shongwe agrees with referee Victor Gomes' decision to send him off in the 2-1 loss to his parent club Bidvest Wits on the weekend.

On Saturday the Witbank-born player, who is at Abafana Bes'thende on loan from Wits, was red carded after dragging a prone Gabadinho Mhango towards the touchline with his captain Matome Mathiane as they believed the Malwaian was faking an injury to run down the clock.

Wits striker James Keene then got involved in the scuffle and was also dismissed in added time, as Mathiane escaped without a card.

Shongwe has since shown remorse for the incident.

"Eish, we wanted to equalise and these people... I ended up trying to take Mhango off the field," Shongwe tells KickOff.com.

"What I did was wrong though, but I did speak to him about it afterwards and everything is fine now between us, it's not personal. He understands it's football. He was busy lying on the ground pretending to be injured. When I confronted him he told me he was tired. He told me that while he was still lying down there... and we wanted a goal by then."

Shongwe adds: "For me the red card was fair, I accept it because what I did was wrong. But as people we don't see things the same way. Obviously what I did wasn't right because it wasn't for me to decide if he [Mhango] should leave the field. Maybe they were still waiting for their doctor. We didn't realise that the referee had ignored him. To the Arrows fans, what I did was wrong and I apologise to all the suporters."
