Ryan Moon's father is proud of the Kaizer Chiefs striker

Ryan Moon's father Patrick feels blessed to see his son doing well at Kaizer Chiefs and insists there’s more to come from the striker if given more opportunities.

Chief coach Steve Komphela signed Moon as a free agent at the beginning of last season after the 21-year-old rejected a new deal from Maritzburg United.

Komphela coached Moon, whose older brother is ex-Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns fullback Bryce, at Maritzburg prior to joining Amakhosi two-and-a-half years ago.

While Moon struggled to break through last term, this season he has scored five goals in all competitions. His last came in last night's 1-0 victory over Cape Town City at FNB Stadium. The victory put Chiefs in second place, four points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Patrick is naturally proud of Ryan's efforts.

“He’s doing well, he’s a goal scorer. He knows how to put the ball in the back of the net,” Patrick tells KickOff.com.

“We are truly blessed and like I said, I played, my older son played and now the young one is coming through, so we’ve all been through.

“I’m confident that goals will come all the time. He’ll score them, guaranteed.”

Patrick says Ryan needed time to overcome an injury on his arrival at Naturena.

“What happened is he sustained a knee injury just as he got there last season,” he explains.

“That knee injury held him back a bit. Now that he's got his break I’m grateful and a proud father.

“For him the sky is the limit and he’ll definitely be going places. If you remember he has scored goals for Bafana Bafana [in the CHAN qualifiers], one on his debut.

"Whenever he plays he scores given the opportunity.”
