Baroka FC and Chippa United played to a 0-0 draw in the Absa Premiership on Saturday afternoon.
Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele fresh from their cup success in midweek, went on the front foot from the get go with Gift Motupa causing a few problems which forced Brighton Mhlongo to the game’s first save.
Algerian Fares Hachi then tried to get on the scoresheet at the other end, but went over the top from close range.
Matome Kgoetyane fired in a shot before the 10th minute mark, but Mhlongo was nicely positioned to guide it over the top.
Talisman Mark Mayambela looked to settle the nerves of Teboho Moloi’s side with a shot from range, but it was comfortably saved by Ayanda Dlamini.
The half’s best chance fell to Linda Mntambo, who failed to capitalize after sending his shot wide amidst the acres of space in the box in the 25th minute.
It was proving to be a game of few chances, clear-cut ones at that, as Mpho Kgaswane threatened later with a woeful shot that was of no disturbance to Mhlongo.
Comeback kid Edward Manqele made his return after 51 minutes, replacing the out-of-form birthday boy Kurt Lentjies.
As in the first half, the sequence of chances from both chances continued to come in short supply despite the alterations on both ends.
Regardless, the home side kept the pressure and though they came close to breaking the deadlock on a few occasions through Kgaswane and Hassan Banda.
Moloi’s troops as always shouldered on and though they appeared to slow down, kept up the pressure and were nearly rewarded after Andile Mbenyane’s free-kick came off the woodwork.
With the time running out, they settled for a draw that moves both of them on 28 points, while they remain in seventh and eight place respectively.
