Maritzburg United midfielder Deolin Mekoa expects "fireworks" in tonight's KwaZulu-Natal derby with AmaZulu at Harry Gwala Stadium (20h00).
Maritzburg are boosted by the return from suspension of Mekoa, Bevan Fransman, Bandile Shandu and Siphesihle Ndlovu, who missed the 3-1 win over Swallows FC in the last-32 of the Nedbank Cup.
Both teams, who drew the reverse tie 1-1 in September, are looking to shore up top-eight finishes, with sixth-placed United two points ahead with 10 games remaining.
"We've got players coming back from suspension and we're playing at home at the Harry Gwala Stadium, so it's going to be a good night of football," Mekoa told his club's website.
"It's gonna be fireworks. I remember we drew with them in the first round, we were leading and in the last minute of the game they scored. So now we just want to win and kill it off here in Maritzburg.
"If they win they jump places, if we win we also jump places, that adds more spice. I watched some of their matches and they are doing well at the moment, so it's going to be a good game, I can't wait.”
He added: "We are going for a win and we don't care what they call it. I know it's a derby, I know about the bragging rights, but we just want to get the three points and keep on going and pushing forwards. I know it's possible we can get into the top three, top four. It would be a good achievement for us guys as a team."
Mekoa is aware Usuthu have found form as Cavin Johnson's side currently ride a six-game unbeaten streak, which includes four victories.
"The way AmaZulu they've been playing they've got a good balance. They've got youngsters and experienced players. I think the experienced guys are mostly pulling the strings. You see [Siyabonga] Nomvethe and them are scoring crucial goals, so yeah I think they are a good team."
