Kaizer Chiefs winger Joseph Molangoane believes Amakhosi have enough quality to win the league and cup double this season.
Amakhosi, who are seven points behind Absa Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, were drawn to play National First Division outfit Stellenbosch FC in the Nedbank Cup last 16 last night.
Chiefs beat Golden Arrows 3-0 in the last 32 and are hoping to go all the way to end a trophy drought that has seen Amakhosi fans calling for the axing of coach Steve Komphela.
“We have quality in the team to get both. I don’t see anything stopping us. We can go there and fight, but what matters is each game as it comes. If we win our remaining 10 games in the league and the four left in the Nedbank, then we have a chance,” Molangoane said last night at the draw.
Chiefs played Stellenbosch in last season’s Nedbank Cup, beating the second-tier side 3-0 as striker Gustavo Paez bagged his first goal for the Soweto giants.
Molangoane, who has been one of Amakhosi’s star performers this season, says they will be ready to face the same team again because they know how important winning the Nedbank Cup is.
“I am happy with the draw, but you know it’s a difficult one. We played Stellenbosch last season and it was difficult, but we managed to get a victory.
“Now things have changed and we don’t what’s happening there. It’s difficult, but we need to soldier on and you know we need a trophy. The technical team and players know how important it is. We won against Arrows and now we need to come up with a plan for Stellenbosch. We have to fight.”
Before thinking about the cup game, Chiefs will have to make sure they collect maximum points against Cape Town City in a league match at FNB Stadium tomorrow (20h15).
