Lyle Lakay says Kaizer Chiefs don't intimidate Cape Town City

Posted: 15 February 2018 Time: 17:30

Cape Town City winger Lyle Lakay left no doubt as to the importance of Saturday's clash with title rivals Kaizer Chiefs, dubbing the match a “must-win six-pointer".

Both teams trail Absa Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by seven points with 10 games remaining heading into the fixture at FNB Stadium.

Fourth-placed Chiefs boast a superior goal difference to City and also won the reverse tie 2-0 in September via goals from Siphiwe Tshabalala and Wiseman Meyiwa at Cape Town Stadium.

Lakay is adamant the Citizens can not afford to lose the high-stakes rematch.

“This game definitely a six-pointer, a must-win six-pointer and that is non-negotiable,” Lakay tells

“One thing is for sure, the guys won’t need extra motivation for the clash against one of the top teams in the country.

“We know that we won’t have it all our way because there’s so much at stake for both teams. But we are City and we won’t be intimidated or threatened in any way.

“We are going for the win as we also have to get one over them as well. Like I said, it’s a must-win six-pointer for us.”

He adds: “They have been going about their business very quietly and they pose a big threat.

“Chiefs will be desperate for success as they have gone a few seasons without winning a major trophy.

“So this is something we have to keep in mind as well.”
