Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane says teammate Percy Tau has the right attitude to succeed and has backed him to win the PSL Footballer of the Season award.

Zwane says Tau has been making the team tick and has been impressed with how the 23-year-old is constantly looking to rectify his mistakes by doing extra work after training.

Tau has been sensational in this campaign, with eight goals and nine assists in all competitions. Despite being one of the youngest players in the starting line-up, Tau has proven he can deal with the pressure of carrying the team in some matches.

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane recently said he feels Tau has put himself in a good position to win the award and Zwane agrees.

“I totally agree. If you check Percy’s performances, he is taking his game a level up,” he tells

“He is scoring and creating and he is making the team tick this season. He is working hard for the team. He is doing extra work and he is analysing his game and rectifying his mistakes. He loves his job. He always wants to improve. I like his attitude.”

Tau and Zwane have combined on many occasions for both Sundowns and the national team Bafana Bafana to score goals.

Sundowns wll take on third-placed Free State Stars in their next Absa Premiership match on Wednesday at Loftus Stadium. Zwane says they are expecting a difficult 90 minutes against an Ea Lla Koto side that has performed extremely well this season under the guidance of Belgian coach Luc Eymael.

“They are a tough team. We know that they are going to come hard at us. They need a win or draw away from home, but we also have our own plan. We have been analysing them since last week, so we know what to expect,” he says.
