Baroka FC scraped into the Nedbank Cup second round with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Platinum Stars on Wednesday.
Dikwena were the more adventurous side from the word go, with Letsie Koapeng breaking through only to miss a golden opportunity after controlling perfectly.
Zimbabwean Gerald Phiri Junior asked serious questions of Ayanda Dlamini on the 15th minute mark, which the latter replied with a great save.
The Limpopo side struggled to get into rhythm. They were managed by assistant coach Donald Makhubedu following the suspension of Kgoloko Thobejane.
They were able to come up with a few half-hearted goal-mouth efforts, which Roger De Sa’s side was able to manage effectively.
Striker Lucky Nguzana managed to get goal-side after collecting in the middle of the park, but he went wayward after the half and hour mark.
After a slow start to the second half, Bakgaga went in front from the spot when Gift Motupa stepped up to send Mbongeni Mzimela the wrong way.
The spot kick resulted came after Sibusiso Mthethwa tripped Mduduzi Mdantshane on his way to goal, forcing Phelelani Ndaba to point to the spot.
They were reduced to 10 men after Godfrey Mosele received his marching orders for a second bookable offence.
In added time, Dlamini made himself big again to distract Mduduzi Nyanda from sending the game to extra time, thus giving Bakgaga safe passage to the last 16.
