Rusike: I am not Brockie

New SuperSport United striker Evans Rusike says he will not put himself under pressure to play like Jeremy Brockie or to repeat the feats of the departed New Zealander.
Rusike was signed by Matsatsantsa from Maritzburg United after Brockie made a big move to Tshwane rivals Mamelodi Sundowns last month. He’s already found the back of the net, in a 4-2 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic in the Absa Premiership.
Brockie bagged 54 goals in his time at SuperSport, falling just three goals short of the late Abram Raselemane’s club scoring record.
“I can’t say I am replacing someone. Obviously when someone leaves, I come in and fill up the space. It’s the same when I left Maritzburg, someone must fill up the space,” Rusike tells KickOff.com.
“He [Brockie] has his own type of play and I have my own way of playing. I will do my own thing and I won’t put myself under pressure [to do what Brockie did].”
Matsatsantsa have had a disastrous league campaign, but Rusike believes they can still finish in the top eight. Currently in 11th place with 10 matches to go, SuperSport are just two points off mid-table AmaZulu and will be hoping the recent victory over Celtic will give them the boost they need to move up the standings.
“My focus now is to do well with the team and help the team finish in the top eight. It’s possible. That’s the other reason I came here. I saw the way they play and I was so inspired to play with them. We have a great team and we can achieve a lot going forward.
“We are blessed because we have youth and experience. Combine the two and it’s explosive. There's the likes of Dean [Furman], 'Yeye' [Reneilwe Letsholonyane] and Aubrey [Modiba]. You are combining brains and energy.”
SuperSport will take on Platinum Stars in Phokeng on Tuesday before taking on Sundowns four days later at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
