Zwane: Pirates are playing top football

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane has identified Orlando Pirates as their biggest threat in the race to win the Absa Premiership title.
While he has not ruled out Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City in the race, it’s second-placed Pirates he feels are on a high at the moment and league leaders Sundowns should not allow them to close the gap at the top.
The Buccaneers are five points behind the seven-time league champions, though the Soweto giants have played one more match than Sundowns.
Chiefs are in fourth place and City are a spot below them. Both of them are seven points behind Sundowns.
“Chiefs, Pirates and Cape Town City are still there,” Zwane tells KickOff.com.
“These clubs are on form at the moment. They are winning their games and they are strong, especially Pirates who are looking good at the moment. They’ve got their combinations and you can see that the morale in their team is high. They are playing top football. We are looking to make sure that they don’t get closer to us on the log. We just have to keep on winning.
“If we win our games, then we won’t have to worry about who is behind us.”
With so many clubs dropping points this season, it remains to be seen if anyone can reach the 60-point mark. At the moment, Sundowns have the best chance of getting there and Zwane feels they would enhance their chance of doing so if they can win their next five matches.
“It’s possible for us to reach 60 points this season. We will fight to the end. We want to win all the games that are left. If we can win five games in a row from now, then we can win another five in a row after that, why not? We just need to focus and work hard.”
Sundowns will play Free State Stars, SuperSport United, AmaZulu, Chippa United and Baroka FC in their next five matches.
