Former Barcelona forward Thierry Henry says he'd love to have played alongside Liverpool's Roberto Firmino

Former Barcelona and Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has lavished praise on Liverpool's Roberto Firmino by claiming he'd love to have played alongside the tireless forward.

Firmino, 26, has earned plaudits for his leading role as the Reds main attacker this season and after grabbing a goal and assist in the 2-0 victory over Southampton on Sunday, Henry was left impressed by his technical ability as a lone-striker.

Since arriving in England in 2015 from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim for a reported fee of £36.90m (R612m), the Brazil international has been converted from an attacking midfielder to a complete centre-forward under the tutelage of manager Jurgen Klopp.

"The way he plays, the way he works, the assist that he had - everything that he does. That's why he always plays," Henry told Sky Sports after Firmino took his seasons' tally to 20 goals and 11 assists in 36 games.

"It's perfect. I would have liked to play with this guy."
