Manchester City's Vincent Kompany feels the Premier League side can win the UEFA Champions League

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany believes the English Premier League leaders can challenge for their first UEFA Champions League title this season.

The Citizens currently hold a 16 point lead over second-placed Manchester United at the summit of the Premier League and take on Swiss champions FC Basel in the last-16 of the Champions League.

After being knocked out at this stage of the competition three times out of the last four seasons, Kompany insists the Sky Blues spirits have never been higher than the current season under head coach Pep Guardiola.

"We've been caught out on occasions when we shouldn't have been but I think things have changed now," Kompany told the media, as quoted via Sky Sports. "If there is a year, a time, a moment when the club is ready to feel at home in the competition then it's now.

"I'm not going to say it's a matter of time because some clubs never win it but, if every year we can go in with this kind of confidence, then if not this year, or next year, eventually we'll get there. I'm sure of it."
