Following his first official goal for Al Ahly last week, South African starlet Phakamani Mahlambi continued to prove his worth in Egypt after another stellar performance on Monday night.
The 20-year-old was handed just his fourth league start of the season as the Red Devils lined up against Arab Contractors once more, the very same team they had beaten 3-0 in their away league encounter last Thursday.
Following his goal and assist last week, Mahlambi needed just seven minutes to contribute this time around, squaring the ball into the box for teammate Walid Azarou to open the scoring for the hosts. And just seven minutes later, the former Bidvest Wits man registered another assist, this time Junior Ajayi providing the finishing touch.
Arab Contractors got themselves back into the game with a goal each side of the break to make it 2-2, yet Al Ahly showed their class with three goals in the last 10 minutes – by which time Mahlambi had been substituted – to secure a resounding 5-2 win, increasing their lead at the summit of the standings to 14 points over second-placed Ismaily.
Mahlambi now has five assists and one goal in his nine league appearances this season.
Elsewhere in Romania, May Mahlangu played the full 90 minutes as Dinamo Bucuresti edged Concordia Chiajna 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller, the three points taking the South African’s club up to sixth in the league after 24 games played.
