However, the 30-year-old has not been in his best scoring form of late, having last netted a goal 15 games ago in SuperSport’s Telkom Knockout Cup loss to Bloemfontein Celtic on 28 October.

Brockie’s last league goal came even further back, in Matsatsantsa’s 2-0 win over Platinum Stars on 12 September, and in four appearances for his new club, has yet to get off the mark.

Yet Downs’ assistant coach is unperturbed.

“We are very satisfied with what he has done,” Mngqithi insists. “You must remember, it’s been a very short space of time – he’s come in from a team that plays very differently from us, and that adaptation period doesn’t take a short period of time.

“We know what he can do, and I’m sure you know what he can do, and that is the reason why we have him.”

Brockie will he hoping to break his duck when Sundowns are next in action in an Absa Premiership encounter against Free State Stars on 21 February at Loftus Versfeld.
