Pitso trusts Mngqithi to get job done

Don’t expect to see Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane sitting in the stands giving instructions to assistant coach Manqoba Mngqithi.

Mosimane, who will be watching tonight's Nedbank Cup last 32 match against Cape Town All Stars from the stands, has full confidence in Mngqithi and his players to execute the plan they have for the National First Division outfit.

The former Bafana Bafana coach was sent to the stands in last Friday's Absa Premiership match against Cape Town City by referee Victor Gomes.

Usually coaches who are serving suspensions have their phones with them in the stands, sending messages to assistant coaches to either make substitutions or tactical changes to the side.

Mosimane, however, will sit in the stands comfortably, knowing very well that he has a man he can count on to get the job done.

“It teaches you to involve the people you work with on your plans, on your thinking. If they know your game plan, then there’s no need to phone. It’s how you as a head coach work with your assistant,” Mosimane said.

“Sometimes head coaches do their own thing and their assistants only see the line-up on the day of the match. When you have a good assistant who has been at the highest [level], you are able to talk and give instructions. I was smiling in the stands [against Cape Town City] and I never sent anybody say ‘tell Manqoba this or tell Manqoba that’ because he knows the plan. We do match analysis together, so you must empower your assistant.”
