Swallows fire Maritzburg warning

Posted: 8 February 2018 Time: 10:00

Swallows FC technical director Power Makhura says his young team is ready to surprise Maritzburg United when the two sides meet in a Nedbank Cup last 32 tie on Saturday at Dobsonville Stadium.

The Gauteng ABC Motsepe League side are banking on being a closed book to their topflight opponents.

"We are ready for Saturday's game," Makhura tells

"We are ready for Maritzburg, we are waiting for them. What excites us is that they know nothing about us, and we know everything about them. We've been watching them, we've been studying them, we know what we need to do for us to beat them.

"They are coming to Dobsonville, they are coming to our home ground. We believe with the way we've prepared, the way our team is full of young talented young boys who wants to make a name for themselves... they are motivated by the fact that they will be playing against a PSL team. Most of all they are looking for exposure as it's their wish to play in the PSL.

"If only we can find ourselves reaching the last-eight, that would be a huge achievement to us as Swallows as we would have made our supporters happy. It will also motivate our boys coming to the ABC Motsepe League as we are still competing for the league. The boys are so excited they can't even wait for Saturday, they know they will be on TV. We have surprise signings, remember our [transfer] window only opened recently on 1 February, so Maritzburg mustn't think they will come here for a walk over."

Kick-off is scheduled for 15h30.
