Mauricio Pochettino hails "professional" Tottenham after FA Cup replay win over Newport County

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has hailed his side's "professional" performance following Wednesday's 2-0 FA Cup replay win over Newport County.

An early own goal from Dan Butler and Erik Lamela's 34th-minute strike secured Spurs' place in the fifth round and Pochettino was pleased to see his side avoid another hiccup against the League Two side, having drawn 1-1 in their initial fourth-round tie.

"We are in the next stage and that is the most important thing," he said. "The performance was professional, it was an important win."

Pochettino also used the match to give some of his fringe players a starting berth, having made no fewer than 10 changes from the squad that drew 2-2 with Liverpool last weekend.

"It's important for many players to have the possibility to play," added Pochettino.

"It's tough to find a place to play because the team is doing well. Today was a great opportunity for different players, like Toby [Alderweireld], Danny [Rose] and Harry Winks, to play games and compete at this level. It's completely different to training."
