Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez has been found guilty of tax evasion and has subsequently been handed a 16-month prison sentence for his misdemeanours.
The Chile international, who arrived at the Red Devils from Arsenal last month, was accused of using an off-shore account in Malta to defraud the Spanish Treasury of £890k (R14,9m) in 2013, during his stint with Barcelona.
After pleading guilty to the charges, the former Arsenal man agreed to repay the owed money and see no jail time, with the 16-month sentence suspended.
According to Spanish laws, only a sentence of two years or more are met with jail time, but Sanchez could still face further legal action if he is found guilty of a similar crime over the next 24 months.
The sentence issued by Spanish authorities follows Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho all being found guilty of similar offences over the past three years.
