Mbappe dimisses Ronaldo decline claims

Posted: 7 February 2018 Time: 12:50

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has dismissed the notion that Real Madrid attacking talisman Cristiano Ronaldo is past his peak and on the decline.

After missing the first four games of the La Liga season through suspension, the 33-year-old has struggled to replicate his prolific domestic form of the past, with only eight goals in 17 games.

His lack of league goals have seen the European Champions trail league leaders Barcelona by a staggering 19 points, but Mbappe feels the statistics don't reflect the level at which the current Ballon d'Or holder can still perform at.

With PSG set to take on Los Blancos in the UEFA Champions League last-16 next Wednesday, the France international is hopeful his side will be able to nullify the threat of the former Manchester United man.

"Ronaldo is not on the decline. If he is on the decline, there are many more players on the decline then," Mbappe told reporters after PSG's win over Sochaux on Tuesday.

"He is a great player. But we hope he will remain quiet against us."
