Kaizer Chiefs newcomer Kabelo Mahlasela is still some way off from making his debut for the Soweto giants, but coach Steve Komphela has been boosted by the return of Bernard Parker.
Mahlasela joined Chiefs in January from Bloemfontein Celtic, as part of a swap plus cash deal that saw defender Lorenzo Gordinho go on loan in the opposite direction.
However, he damaged his knee in training and had to undergo surgery last month.
Chiefs physio David Milner gave an update on the 26-year-old winger's progress.
"Mahlasela has started with rehab in the gym,” Milner explained on the club's website.
“He is doing cardio and leg strengthening. He is still using crutches and a brace. We are looking at eight weeks to go before he resumes training on the pitch.”
In other team news, striker Parker has recovered from a niggling ankle problem and is back with the squad, having not played since the beginning of the year.
Tsepo Masilela has also shaken off an ankle injury but is yet to resume full training.
Fellow fullback Philani Zulu (sprained ankle) and midfielder George Maluleka (calf strain) will be evaluated throughout the week as they nurse their respective complaints.
Meanwhile, wingback Joseph Molangoane and centre-back Teenage Hadebe are available again after serving suspensions.
Amakhosi next host Golden Arrows in the last-32 of the Nedbank Cup at FNB Stadium on Sunday (15h30).
