Mulenga is yet to make his Pirates debut since being recruited in January from Zambian outfit Zanaco.

Much is expected of the Zambian Footballer of the Year, who scored three times for Chipolopolo at the recent CHAN tournament in Morocco.

The well-travelled Sredojevic says he has been following the 28-year-old's progress for quite some time.

“I belong to those football people on the continent who not only love African football but also witness how kids are growing on our continent,” Sredojevic says.

“And I remember him when he was with Nkwazi FC‚ and have seen how he played in the Champions League with Zanaco growing up.

“I practically followed him‚ even when he has had the hardest thing in his life when Zambia played Nigeria in a World Cup qualifier.

"I don’t know whether you have read this. God forbid, he lost a kid‚ a daughter.”

Sredojevic adds that there were many teams interested in Mulenga, including Egyptian giants Al-Ahly, but he decided to join the Buccaneers.

“I believe that he had many destinations. I know clubs in France wanted him‚ clubs in North Africa that they wanted him. But he chose to come to us.

“We are welcoming him in our family. Orlando Pirates football family has a very accommodative big space and a big heart for everyone to accommodate, and we are accommodating him.

“And we expect that with the amount of talent shown in the last match where he played against Ivory Coast in CHAN‚ that South African football lovers and our supporters are looking to see something in that fashion.

“South Africa loves football in a special way and his arrival as the best player from Zambia at present is an asset to our football‚ an asset to us as a team. And we are looking that he will add value to the team,” concludes the Serbian.

Bucs, in second place on the Premiership table, next host Ajax Cape Town in the last-32 of the Nedbank Cup on Saturday.
