Free State Stars returned to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 win over Baroka FC in the Absa Premiership.
Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele recalled goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke for the first time this season, while Stars introduced new signing in Belgian-born Maxine Cosse, who started from the bench.
Captain Paulus Masehe was looking to give them an early lead, but he sadly couldn’t finish off Siphelele Mthembu’s layoff on the edge of the box.
They posted another threat to goal moments later through the head of former Orlando Pirates strongman Rooi Mahamutsa which was cleared off the line following Sinethemba Jantjie’s corner.
Tchilimbou then went close with a shot from range, but it was straight at Masuluke. He then missed another opportunity to get on the scoresheet but headed wide of Patrick Phungwayo’s cross.
Within the space of a few minutes, Gift Motupa failed to make the most of two golden opportunities in front of goal, failing to hit the target.
They would paid for it later on after the hosts went in front following a well-executed strike by Sthembiso Dlamini from good interplay involving Mthembu in the 32nd minute.
Tchilimbou’s frustrations in front of goal continued well into the second half as he fired over the top from close range following Jantjie’s cross from the right.
It took Badra Ali Sangare 55 minutes to make his first save as he was called into action to deny Motupa from close range.
Ea Lla Koto looked threatening on the break, and Dlamini nearly got his brace but was quickly indisposed by Masuluke who closed down his angle near the touchline.
Motupa missed yet another opportunity in front of goal when he rounded Sangare to fire over the top albeit through excellent defending.
Stars doubled their lead courtesy of Mthembu who comfortably tapped in Nyiko Mobbie’s delivery from the right to take them back to winning ways and second-place.
