Muhsin: Nxumalo’s whereabouts unknown

Ajax Cape Town coach Muhsin Ertugral says he is waiting on striker Prince Nxumalo to come speak to him, saying he is unsure of the troubled forward’s whereabouts.

Nxumalo, Ajax’s joint-top scorer last term with six goals, has played seven matches across all competitions this season, but last featured in a 1-0 loss to Platinum Stars in November under former coach Stanley Menzo, before failing to return to training after the festive break.

Nxumalo was rumoured to be on the verge of an exit in January, but upon the transfer window’s closure, with no official announcement made by the club, Ertugral was asked of the striker’s situation, admitting he is in the dark.

“Our chairman had a meeting with him,” Ertugral said. “From my side, he just needs to come and speak to me. I’m waiting, until today. Suddenly he was gone.

“I came in as the new coach, but I have not seen him. I don’t know, we have not done anything wrong, so I think he should come and see me. But I don’t know where he is.”

Asked if Nxumalo is still part of the Ajax squad, Ertugral replied, “Yes, the chairman is still paying his wages!”

Injury and issues with epilepsy have marred Nxumalo’s two-and-a-half year stay so far with the Urban Warriors, yet the 27-year-old still holds a respectable record of 21 goals in 57 matches for the Cape club.

He now finds himself way down the pecking order at the club following the recent recruitment of the attack-minded Tendai Ndoro, Yannick Zakri, Samuel Julies and Fagrie Lakay.
