Shaun Bartlett knows what Jomo Cosmos are about

Posted: 3 February 2018 Time: 09:00

University of Pretoria head coach Shaun Bartlett says he knows exactly what to expect when they face Jomo Cosmos on Saturday as both teams look for their first wins of 2018.

Like Cosmos, AmaTuks hit a slump before the Christmas break, with their most recent loss coming against Tshakuma Tsha Madzhivhandila last week.

The promotion hopefuls will collide at 15h30 at Absa Tuks Stadium in what promises to be a mouth-watering clash.

"Ja, it's obviously a big game for both of us because we haven't really started 2018 on a good foot," Bartlett tells

"We are looking for that first 2018 elusive win and ja we've obviously played Cosmos quite a few times now in the NFD so we know what to expect. And like you said, both teams are chasing the points and hopefully my players turn up and give a good performance so we can get a victory."

Despite dropping from second to sixth on the log, the Bafana Bafana legend believes his team still stand a chance of gaining entry to the topflight this season given that there is plenty of football to be played with 11 matches left.

"Ja, I think if you look at the log the fortunate thing is even though our form hasn't been great, we are only four points to third place and we are a couple of wins away from first. Our first priority now is to make sure we get back into the top three and from there anything can happen. There's 11 games to go, there is no way you can lose hope or give up now before the end of the season. The thing in this league, you win a couple of games and you are in good position. So we better make sure we win our games.

"As far as the squad selection [goes], we are looking to make a couple of changes also, though it's enforced changes. One of our players got injured and another got a red card [Claudio Amaral de Almeida]. We need to start scoring goals, that's the main thing because we are struggling in that department and hopefully we can turn that around against Cosmos."
