Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids says the club wanted a big goalkeeper that could handle crosses into the area, hence they signed imposing Ghana international Richard Ofori.
Ofori has impressed since joining Maritzburg in the off-season as a replacement for Virgil Vries, keeping nine clean sheets in 18 appearances in all competitions.
The Team of Choice boast the best defensive record in the Premiership alongside Kaizer Chiefs, having both conceded 11 times in 19 fixtures.
"When Virgil Vries left we needed a profile goalkeeper who is good in the air," Davids told his club's website.
"We looked at our youth and at the Diski team, a lot of short players. We knew last season that crosses into the box were our weak point and Richard gives us that dimension.
"It's a team effort, it starts from upfront where we press the opposition, so it's not only about our defence and our goalkeeper, it's a team effort.
"Like I said when we went through nine games without scoring, we have to score as a team, and it's the same at the back.
"So even our strikers take pride in the defensive record, because their work up front to press, to close angles, is what protects the team."
Maritzburg on Saturday visit Orlando Pirates, who are smarting after a 3-0 defeat at Ajax Cape Town in midweek.
Davids, however, believes the Buccaneers are playing quality football under Milutin Sredojevic.
"Pirates are a fantastic side playing fantastic football, but we definitely want to get something out of it."
Davids can no longer call on Zimbabwean striker Evans Rusike following his move to SuperSport United earlier this week, but now has midfielder William Twala at his disposal following his loan switch from Kaizer Chiefs.
United, who were held to a 1-1 home draw by Chippa United last time out, are sixth on the table with 28 points - two points behind fourth-placed Pirates.
