Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana has explained why the club has struggled against Cape Town City.
Second-placed City have won all three of the matches they have played against Sundowns and will be looking to make it four when they meet in the Absa Premiership at Athlone Stadium tomorrow night (20h00).
But Kekana says they are determined to get maximum points to open up a gap at the top of the table, so they will be ready for the counter attacking football which the Citizens usually play.
“They play on the break and at times we struggle against teams that play on the break. But the training we had this week has prepared us for the game, so we will be ready” Kekana tells KickOff.com.
“We need the points. Tomorrow we leaving everything on the pitch,” the hard-working midfielder adds.
Sundowns currently sit on 35 points at the top of the standings, four ahead of second-City with 11 matches left in the season. It will be a tight race to the finish, with the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates also looking to get their hands on the coveted prize in May.
“It’s tight at the top, so getting three points will put us in a much better position going forward,” Kekana says.
Sundowns’ January signing Aubrey Ngoma will come up against his former employers since leaving the Mother City. When City beat Sundowns 1-0 in December, it was Ngoma who set up Nana Akosah-Bempah for the winner scored in the first half.
Sundowns will be hoping Ngoma can lead them to their first ever victory over the Citizens.
