Maritzburg United are set to announce the signing of Zimbabwean striker John Zhuwawu before the transfer deadline on Wednesday evening.
Zhuwawu is touted as the replacement to departed striker Evans Rusike, who joined SuperSport United on a three-year deal on Tuesday.
Following the exit of Rusike, coach Fadlu Davids is left with limited options in Belgian forward Andrea Fileccia and Mohau Mokate, but this could soon change with the arrival of the 27-year-old from Caps United.
“There’s a Zimbabwean striker they are signing. The club management was busy with processes from yesterday on making sure that he’s registered on time before the window closes at midnight,” a source tells KickOff.com.
Meanwhile, reports in Harare suggest Zhuwawu is already in the country as the Team of Choice scurry to seal the deal.
“John is flying to South Africa on Wednesday and this could be his breakthrough to a foreign club,” CAPS United president Farai Jere told Zimbabwe's Herald on Tuesday.
“As a club we have already made it clear that we will never stand in the way of any of our players who are wanted by foreign clubs."
Zhuwawu was on the radar of Ajax Cape Town towards the end of last year, but it seems the Pietermaritzburg-based club will beat the Urban Warriors to his signature.
