Kgoloko Thobejane hails Baroka attacker Gift Motupa

PSL defenders fear the goal-scoring prowess of Baroka attacker Gift Motupa.

READ: Doc - We breathe same air as Big Three

This is according to Bakgaga coach Kgoloko Thobejane, who saluted the on-loan forward after his brace in a 2-2 draw with Golden Arrows at Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday.

Motupa showed strength in shrugging off Sandile Zuke and slipping the ball through the legs of Nkosingiphile Gumede to give Baroka the lead in the 16th minute in KwaMashu.

He then bagged his eighth goal of the season - one less than Golden Boot frontunner Rodney Ramagalela - by blasting a 75th minute equaliser into the roof of the net.

Thobejane is naturally pleased with the form of the Orlando Pirates-owned player.

"He [Motupa] is our leading top scorer and PSL defenders are now afraid of him because he doesn't need many chances to convert," said Thobejane.

"Like that one [first goal], it was his first chance of the game and he converted it. So it was good for him, good for the team to say 'we have a scorer, so why are we panicking?'. So we must give him enough chances so that he can help us."

Meanwhile, Thobejane believes his team remain in the hunt for Premiership honours. Baroka once scaled the summit but now trail log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by nine points with 11 games left.

"We said prior to this game, if we got three points we are still in the chasing pack. But 26 [points] from 35 [Downs' tally], we are still nine away from Sundowns," he added.

"This means we are still in, only if we manage to get three points in the next game."

Thobejane's men next visit Luc Eymael's Free State Stars on Saturday at Goble Park.
