New Cape Town City striker Masoud Juma says it’s a dream to be training under hero Benni McCarthy, and hopes to follow in the record-breaking scorer’s footsteps.
The young Kenyan was earlier this month unveiled at the Citizens, having been roped in to provide cover following the departure of Lehlohonolo Majoro to Bidvest Wits.
The former Kariobangi Sharks forward is yet to make his debut for the Cape club, but says he is thrilled at having joined the Absa Premiership outfit.
“It’s amazing, and an honour being here,” he said. “It’s a dream of every player where I come from to play in such a big league.
“I see there’s a lot of good strikers here, but I’m here to work and to score, as I do, which is my job and what I like to do.”
The highly-rated marksman, who top scored in the Kenyan Premier League with 17 goals last season, says he’s honoured to be playing for Bafana Bafana’s record scorer McCarthy, and hopes to take a leaf out of the former striker’s book.
“I used to be his fan, and now I’m being coached by him, so it’s amazing,” he said of McCarthy. “I’m really enjoying being under him, and I hope I follow in his footsteps to become a better striker in future.”
City are next in action on Friday night against log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, and can reduce the gap to just one point with a victory over their rivals at Athlone Stadium on Friday evening.
Kick-off is set for 20h00.
