Cape Town City chairman John Comitis says the club have decided against signing veteran midfielder Steven Pienaar.

Comitis last week revealed he would discuss a potential deal for Pienaar with head coach Benni McCarthy, having touched base with 'Schillo' during the Citizens' derby win over Ajax Cape Town at Cape Town Stadium on January 20.

However, the former Ajax boss has now ruled out adding Pienaar to their roster.

"No, there's nothing happening here today or tomorrow," Comitis tells KickOff.com.

Comitis would not elaborate on why they passed on the 35-year-old Pienaar, who was recently released by Bidvest Wits after a disappointing six-month spell with the champions.

"We are no longer pursuing the player [Pienaar]. We just decided we not gonna do it."

City recruited Ugandan winger Allan Kateregga, Kwanda Mngonyama, Surprise Ralani and Masoud Juma this month.
