Leon Goretzka says he accepts the anger shown towards him by Schalke's fans after he was jeered at the weekend, just days after signing a pre-deal with Bayern Munich.
The midfielder will join the Bavarian giants at the end of the current season as a free agent as he is already in the final six months of his deal at the Veltins Arena.
Schalke's fans then let Goretzka know exactly what they think of the move after booing and jeering the playmaker during the 1-1 draw against Hamburg, and the 22-year-old admits that is something he will have to accept for the remainder of the campaign.
"When your own fans are whistling against you it always hurts. But I expected the whistles and I can understand them partially," he told Sky Sports.
"These days have been the most difficult of my career. It was a special situation for me. I'm glad that the atmosphere remained positive overall. The boos hurt, of course."
He added: "I thought so long about my decision. It was a long process. I listened to myself then decided where I wanted to go and where my goals are."
