Jose Mourinho downplays reports Manchester United will move for Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has played down reports the club are ready to move for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portugal international's future at the Santiago Bernabeu has come under doubt of late, with Los Blancos having fallen 19 points off the pace in their La Liga title defence before crashing out the Copa del Rey in midweek.

The Galacticos' rocky form has led to claims Ronaldo is looking to jump ship, with a return to Old Trafford touted by the media, although Mourinho has distanced the club from the rumours.

"I should be the last one to add some fuel to the fire," said Mourinho. "Madrid is on fire, the results are not good and it is a club where I worked three years. I care about the club and I don't want to add fire.

"To put some water on the fire I would say Cristiano is the kind of player every manager wants, every club wants.

"But only one manager can have and only one club can have - Zidane and Real Madrid, that's my feeling."
