Pitso: I could keep Castro if I wanted

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says he has no problem if Leonardo Castro scores against his old side on Saturday, and says he was generous to hand him over to Kaizer Chiefs.

Castro completed a move to Amakhosi from The Brazilians, after the two clubs reached an agreement towards the end of December prior to his contract expiring in June this year.

The Colombian striker has already opened his account for his new employers, netting the decisive goal on his debut in last weekend’s 2-1 win over Baroka.

Mosimane, who brought the South American to South African shores in 2015, says it was his decision to allow Castro to join Steve Komphela’s outfit in an act of “generosity”, while he won’t take it personally if he scores on Saturday evening.

“I think Steve is happy that I’ve handed him Leo, I didn’t have to. I could keep him if I want. So that’s the generosity we have,” jibed Mosimane ahead of this weekend’s clash.

“And he’s happy that I gave him someone who scores goals, which is beautiful.

“I’ve seen a lot of players coming from Sundowns and scoring against Sundowns, you can mention a whole list – Eleazar Rodgers, [Rodney] Ramagalela, 'Rama' Mphahlele, you can just go on.

“Everybody scores against us but it’s okay, it’s part of football, it’s not personal. You can’t control it, whether you like it or not, it’s in the game.”

Mosimane expects Castro to share the Sundowns blueprint with Komphela, but believes he also knows how to counter the possible threat of his former marksman.

“Leo knows all our secrets, he moves with a booklet that I’m sure he’s given over to Steve,” added Mosimane.

“He knows our weaknesses and he knows our strengths, but we also know his strengths and his weaknesses, so it depends on the day.

“I don’t have a problem if Leo scores against us, I don’t. There’s nothing wrong with that.”
