AmaZulu and Bloemfontein Celtic played to a 0-0 draw in Wednesday’s Absa Premiership action.
The home side were looking to build on their previous result and continue their upward surge on the Premiership standings.
Usuthu showed their intentions from the onset through Ovidy Karuru who connected with Camaldine Abraw only to squander a golden opportunity for his second goal in as many matches.
Debutant Abraw was looking for a magical start to life with Usuthu, but sadly his header failed to hit the desired entry as it sailed over the bar after 19 minutes.
Siwelele got their first shot on goal two minutes later after Deon Hotto latched onto a long ball before forcing Siyabonga Mbatha into a point-blank save.
As half time drew nearer, AmaZulu continued its search for the opener but was continually let down by poor finishing from key individuals.
In the second half, Veselin Jelusic’s side came out promising and created a few half chances which Hotto and defender Tshepo Rikhotso failed to convert.
After five minutes, Vusi Sikhweni forced Mbatha into a one-handed save with a long-range shot from outside the box.
Usuthu reasserted their stance on the game at the midway point, but their frustrations in front of goal continued as they struggled to break down the Celtic defence.
Ndumiso Mabena made his entry for an ineffective Ruggert Nyundu after 65 minutes, as Jelusic was looking to revive his attacking stall.
Cavin Johnson threw his first attacking dice with the introduction of Siyathemba Mnguni 20 minutes from full time for Butholezwe Ncube.
It did nothing to change the complexion of the game, which ended in a disappointing goalless draw, leaving both sides in their respective ninth and 13th positions.
